Representative Cases

General

In the American justice system, win or lose, each party is responsible for their own attorney’s fees, except when a statute, contract, or court rule allows otherwise.  We are familiar with the statutes and court rules which may allow our clients to collect their attorney fees from the opposing party when our clients prevail.  Our clients have been awarded and we have collected their costs and attorney fees.

Family Law

It is not often that a father is awarded custody of his children and child support in a divorce action.  We have gained custody and support for many fathers, including a father of two pre-school daughters, and a father of two teenage daughters.

We have been successful in obtaining alimony in all kinds of situations including a marriage of only six months. In another matter our client was awarded lifetime alimony.

In arguing for division of assets, we were able to get a client the marital home without debt, before the rest of the parties assets were equally divided.  In another case, we substituted in for a prominent law firm which specializes in divorces, and we obtained $400,000.00 more than the prior firm’s recommended settlement.

In pursuit of child support, we have had both delinquent mothers and fathers placed in jail.  We have also had a receiver appointed to collect back child support which resulted in the seizing of the father’s furniture and over $75,000.00 in total child support and fees.

Construction

We represent all parties in construction disputes from homeowners with leaky basements to general contractors, and all of the subcontractors, suppliers, laborers in-between.  Construction liens are often frightening to owners and under-used or misunderstood by those in the construction industry.  Our firm can easily help you through the lien process.  A construction lien can be a powerful and useful tool, and frequently the easiest way to ensure payment.

If a building contractor is required by law to be properly licensed and they are not so licensed, the unlicensed contractor is prevented from suing to collect money for their work.  We have successfully defended claims for payment and liens filed by unlicensed building contractors.

We have handled construction cases on projects worth hundreds of dollars to projects worth multi-million dollars.

Collections

A judgment is worth no more than the paper it is written on unless you can collect on the judgment.  We have successfully collected on Michigan judgments held by out-of-state companies, and have collected on judgments obtained in other states.

If a debtor fails to pay, our court officers will attempt to seize the debtor’s property.  Often, a debtor finds the money to pay a judgment when the court officers appears with a tow truck and moving van ready to seize the debtors vehicles and property.  If the debtor fails to pay, our court officers have, and will, sell the debtors property to pay a judgment.  In fact, our court officers recently sold a debtor’s home to partially satisfy a judgment of over $250,000.00.

Personal Injury

We have obtained compensation for clients who were injured after a fall (on ice, defective sidewalks, etc), an area where compensation is dramatically declining in Michigan.

If you are having difficulty with your insurance company paying you for an injury or loss, please contact us. The insurance companies have aggressive attorneys trying to prevent payment, and you should have the same aggressive representation in attempting to obtain the insurance payments you deserve.

Criminal/Traffic

Many misdemeanor, civil infraction, and felony charges can be reduced to a lesser charge.  Working as prosecutors and defenders, we possess a unique knowledge of the system which has greatly benefited our clients in plea negotiations and trials.
